Dry Sherry Wine: Suitable for multiple uses

Among the sherry wines, dry sherry is undoubtedly one that stands out for its flavor. It is certainly not a wine for all tastes, however, it has certain characteristics that make it suitable for multiple uses, including cooking.

If you are an enotourist, it is probably not so easy to know the variety of dry sherry wines that you can get.

Well, one of the main problems you will find when trying to access the knowledge of sherry wines is its wide and complex range, starting from the cultivation of its raw material, to the method of elaboration.

When we talk about dry sherry wines, it is something a little more complex, because you have probably tasted many different wines throughout your life, from whites to reds, and certainly including those more rosé, some amazing and others, a little simpler, but when it comes to identifying them beyond their color, can you say what a dry wine is?

There are many factors that define exactly the organoleptic characteristics that this peculiar product should have, but dry sherry wines are basically those whose sugar concentration is between one and three grams per liter.

This means that it is a beverage in which the sugar concentration has been transformed into alcohol during the whole fermentation process and it is for this reason in particular, that it presents a higher alcoholic and acidity degree in its result than other more common wines.

Knowing how to distinguish between a dry and a sweet sherry wine is something that may seem complicated.

However it is not, that is why in Bodegas de Andalucía we want to help you to differentiate them.

A key point of any dry sherry wine (and of any dry wine in general) is the aroma.

In general, sweet wines tend to have fruity and even floral aromas, on the other hand, dry sherries are more herbaceous, spicy, with a touch of wood.

This is a classic characteristic that can undoubtedly help you distinguish one from the other, however, remember that there are also some dry wines with certain fruity nuances, which is why we recommend you to take into account the following differences that we will tell you because all together can help you to know which wine you are drinking.

One feature you should always consider is consistency.

As you will see in general terms the sweeter wines tend to have a thicker consistency than those that are dry, due to the fortification they get from sugar, while on the other hand the natural fermentation of dry sherry wine gives it a drier texture.

And of course, the characteristic that will give you the final word, is the taste, because when distinguishing a dry sherry wine, the tongue and palate become our best allies, but a simple sip of a glass of wine is not enough: during that passage through your mouth, you must let it rest at least a few seconds on the tongue and then swallow it, feeling each of its nuances.

If those aromas and flavors persist for a while, you are probably in front of a sweet wine, because as you will see, dry sherry wine, like all dry wines, is characterized by the transience of its nuances.

In Bodegas de Andalucía we want you to enjoy the best wines from the Jerez region, unique flavors that carry the quality and excellence as a seal in each of its bottles.
