The Vañó olive growing history harkens back to 1780 and the family personally oversees the entire elaboration process of extra virgin olive oils from the cultivation of their own Picual, Arbequina and Royal varietal trees to the arrival of the product at the point of sale.
The firm, whose name comes from the family castle nestled on a hillside in the township of Canena (Jaén).
Biodynamic Agriculture is a step forward from the ECOLOGICAL cultivation method. It is based on the harmonization between the different forces that govern Nature: seasons, atmospheric phenomena, lunar cycles, position of the constellations in the cosmos. Biodynamic agriculture seeks the integral balance between the soil, the trees, the animals and Man.
Reaffirming its commitment to the production of the highest quality extra virgin olive oils and with the defense of the environment and the olive grove, Castillo de Canena launches its first "Biodynamic" extra virgin olive oil, certified by the Spanish Association of Agriculture Biodynamic with the DEMETER seal.
This new oil belongs to its exclusive collection "Oils of the XXI Century" and is made through complete integration and harmony with the ecosystem, with the natural habitat and with the cosmos, enriching the concept of organic farming. A limited product that has just won a Gold medal in the last edition of the international EcoTrama contest, which awards the best organic and biodynamic extra virgin olive oils from around the world.
"Biodynamicity involves not only the total exclusion of chemical synthesis fertilizers or pesticides on our farm, but a total transformation of the environment in which we produce it. We return to the very roots of rural activity. It is what we call archaeo-agriculture ”
The concept of Biodynamic implies achieving the perfect harmonization between the different forces that govern Nature (seasons, atmospheric phenomena, lunar cycles, etc.), the habitat and the work of the field, which must not alter the natural environment that develops around an agricultural holding ”.
"As it happens with our First Day of Harvest oil -with its characteristic cherry color- and with our Arbequino al Smoke of Oak -with its elegant turquoise blue color-, the Biodynamic stands out for the earth color and the sand texture of its bottle, linked to the concept of returning to the roots and origins of rural activity ”, Rosa Vañó has specified. Its size is 500 ml, in the form of a cylinder and it is screen printed in white and green, highlighting its constellation of stars and moon, as the union of heaven and earth.
In its tasting, the vegetal notes of herbs and vegetables predominate in this fresh, lively and expressive oil. The olive leaf, lettuce and artichoke appear in the foreground. Then, fresh fruit, tomato and a sweet touch of green banana and ripe apple. Bitter and spicy are well integrated; and some astringency reminds us of artichoke, thistle or persimmon. Persistent in the mouth.
