Overo wine: A unique Andalusian red wine
Overo wine is an Andalusian red wine crianza produced by Bodegas González Palacios, whose name comes from the pago where the vineyards are located. Its geographic location places it in a unique enclave, on a hill facing the Guadalquivir marshes and without geographical accidents with the sea, receiving the salty breeze from the Atlantic that impregnates all the vineyards with its iodine.
The vinification of Overo: The initial challenge
Félix González, son and commercial director of the winery, tells me that the vinification, the process of transforming the grape juice into wine, was the most complicated part in the first phases of the project. "It was essential that it was the right one," says Felix.
Selected grape varieties
Tempranillo and Syrah grape varieties were chosen to plant the vines. "In 2006 we managed to get our first red wine, after 3 months in the barrel," explains Felix. "We had no idea how to make red wines," he admits, "and that's why we had to hire a French winemaker who was with us until we released the 2008 Crianza."
International recognition for Overo wine
The Overo Crianza 2013 received the grand gold medal at the CINVE 2015 international wine and spirits competition.
The Protected Designation of Origin
The wines of Overo Lebrija are under the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Lebrija Quality Wines.
History and wine tradition of Lebrija
Tell this to yourself as you serve it: although mythology attributes the founding of this city to the god Bacchus, it was the Phoenicians, around the 7th century BC, who, as the first colonizers, introduced the wine culture to the Iberian Peninsula.
