Old & Plus Amontillado Sherry

The Sánchez Romate Hermanos Winery is the official supplier to the Spanish Royal Family, the House of Lords of the United Kingdom and the Holy Apostolic Palace of the Vatican. “Old & Plus” is an unusual sherry with an absolutely unique character, with its Amontillado Sherry standing out in particular.

The “Old & Plus” Range

The “Old & Plus” range of Sherry Wines Plus” brings together the most select and chosen wines from Sánchez Romate Hermanos’ production. They are the winery’s best kept treasure: truly unique wines, including the Jerez Amontillado, certified by the Regulatory Council of the Jerez Designation of Origin with the qualification “Very Old Rare Sherry” (VORS).

VORS Certification

This coveted seal (VORS) is awarded to the few wines that are over thirty years old after having passed a rigorous control process (batch by batch) by a committee of independent experts from the Regulatory Council, in which exhaustive analytical tests are carried out with Carbon 14 that scientifically confirm the average age of the wine. Amontillado Sherry is one of the most appreciated wines within this range.

The Oldest Wines in the World

The “Old & Plus” from Romate, which includes an extraordinary Amontillado Sherry, are part of the privileged group of the oldest wines that can be drunk in the world, a cast of jewels valued as “treasures of oenology” by the most renowned experts.

Wines with History

These wines, like the Amontillado Sherry, have an average age of more than three decades, but they contain solera particles that can easily exceed two centuries of age, taking us back to the very origin of the winery.

Family and Exclusive Selection

These are wines, including the Amontillado Sherry, specially selected that were traditionally set aside from the rest by previous generations of the owners of this winery for exclusive consumption by part of family and friends. They are now marketed as “Old & Plus” for the enjoyment of lovers of good wine, especially Amontillado Sherry.

Exclusive Presentation

If the “Old & Plus” wines, including Amontillado Sherry, are special, their presentation is no less so. Sánchez Romate Hermanos has been inspired by the “Ship’s Decanter” type bottles of the 18th century British Royal Navy, with a wide base to ensure maximum stability in the admiral’s cabin against the waves of the sea. This format is especially appropriate for “decanting” old wines such as Amontillado Sherry, allowing maximum enjoyment of its organoleptic qualities.

“Old & Plus” varieties Old & Plus”

“Old & Plus” are three wines from Jerez (an Amontillado Sherry, an Oloroso and a Pedro Ximénez) that are presented in an exclusive and innovative format, quite far from the classic sherry bottle, and also very different from the usual bottles of reds or whites.

Production and Aging

Amontillado Sherry is a fortified wine made from Palomino Fino grapes. It is aged in oak casks for more than thirty years in accordance with traditional Jerez processes.

Sensory Qualities

Amontillado Sherry tears up in the glass, leaving behind a trail of its elegant dark amber color. On the nose and palate it stands out for its prodigious smoothness and its intense aromas of dried fruits.
