In 1887 the owners of the Sánchez Romate wineries began to produce a different and unique brandy for private consumption. Its quality soon led to growing fame and the winery decided to market it under the name Cardenal Mendoza brandy.
Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real is a Cardenal Mendoza brandyfrom elegant Jerez, with an average aging of 25 years in casks seasoned with old Oloroso. Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real is a Sherry brandy Solera Gran Reserva with an average age of twenty-five years, in which Its aging takes place in old Oloroso casks with less predominance of Pedro Ximenez.
Origin
In 1981, on the occasion of the bicentennial of our winery and with our eyes set on the new century, a reserve of Cardenal Mendoza brandy was saved for commemorate the arrival of the new millennium. For almost two decades, Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real waited patiently for its bottling and release to the market. We use the “surname” Carta Real to remember a dinner in which wines and brandy from the Bodegas Sánchez Romate were served at the Royal Palace of Madrid, on December 2 of the year 1900.
At that time, Juan Manuel Sanchez y Gutierrez de Castro, owner of the winery, was Minister of King Alfonso XII, being awarded by him the title of Duke of Algeciras for the success of his services in the organization of the International Conference of Algeciras in 1906.
