Bodegas Tesalia complete its range of wines with Iceni, a young and fresh red wine, designed to accompany all types of meals from the aperitif.
Half Tintilla de Rota, half Syrah, aged for 5 months in French oak, Iceni 2019 is an explosion of youth on the nose and in the mouth. A blend that may change each vintage, since, as with the other wines in the winery, this wine does not respond to a specific varietal composition but to a style. Each year it will be made with the grapes with the highest fruit concentration from the vineyards of this winery, which also have other grape varieties such as petit verdot or cabernet sauvignon. This is a red wine in line with Tesalia's tendency to minimize the time in the barrel to achieve the maximum expression of the terroir.
History of the Winery
With less than a month of life, Iceni completes the range of this Cadiz winery that has earned the nickname 'the jewel of the south' for its quality and uniqueness of its wines. A project born in 2008 in the hands of Richard and Natalia Golding, father and daughter of a family of Englishmen passionate about horses and in love with the virgin land of southern Spain, located in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazalema, very close to Arcos de la Frontera. An Andalusian 'grand cru', as they themselves boast, from which only refined and complex wines come out, ready to compete with the best reds in the world.
Versatility and Pairing
Iceni 2019's mix of varieties is very versatile on the table and is ideal for chatting over an aperitif. It is a wine that, despite its youth, maintains its character firm for up to three or four years (if we manage not to open it until then). Iceni is capable of accompanying any meal from start to finish thanks to its freshness. We suggest serving it a couple of degrees below normal for a red wine this spring, and pairing it with cold dishes, rice and fish, even with recipes in which the spicy note predominates, to discover all its nuances.
Iceni curiosities
Tell this when serving it: The Iceni or Eceni (in Latin, iceni) were a British tribe that lived in England between the 1st centuries BC and 1st centuries AD They were known as the "horse people" and began minting currency around 10 BC, creating a special adaptation of the Gallic head/horse design. The same image that is represented on the capsule of the bottle of the new wine from Bodegas Tesalia, whose label (again, the work of Valentín Iglesias) continues to revolve around mythology and the equine world, as its older brothers already did. , ARX and Thessaly.
