MoreBodegas Lunares: a wine oasis in the Serranía de Ronda
Ronda, was always a land of wines, until at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, phylloxera arrived, coming from of Malaga (one of the first to be infected in all of Spain) and annihilates the vast majority of vineyards throughout Europe. In the south, due to the climate, the cultivation of olive trees became more profitable and the vine was abandoned completely. In the 80s and thanks to the arrival of F. Schatz to Ronda, its cultivation was resumed, and new wineries were born, making the world of wine very present in Ronda.
It has several vineyards, for example,"Finca Lunares", which is characterized by its altitude and which gives its flagship wine its name, "Altocielo".
The "Finca de la Ronda Vieja" is the highest altitude vineyard in Ronda. There is a temperature variation of 20 degrees between day and night, perfect conditions for growing grapes.
Wine Making
The process of making Bodegas Lunares wines is careful and artisanal. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small boxes to prevent oxidation. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months.
Bodegas Lunares produces a range of four wines:
Blanco Lunares: a fresh and fruity white wine made with Syrah and Graciano grapes.
Rosado Lunares: a light and elegant rosé wine made from Syrah grapes.
Tinto Lunares: a medium-bodied red wine with aromas of red fruits and spices.
Tinto Altocielo: a high-end red wine with aromas of black fruits and toasted wood.
Bodegas Lunares wines have been awarded numerous awards, both national and international. In 2023, Tinto Lunares received the gold medal at the Bacchus International Wine Competition.
