The Primitivo Collantes Winery treasures a rich history that goes back more than 100 years. Since its beginnings in the 19th century, the Collantes family has been passionately dedicated to the production and aging of exquisite wines with D.O Jerez-Xeres-Sherry and vinegars with D.O Vinagre de Jerez.
Currently, the winery has two facilities and three of its own vineyards that total more than 50 hectares, consolidating itself as a quality benchmark in the region.
MoreA family legacy:
The brothers Primitivo and Tomás Collantes, natives of the Iguña Valley in Santander, were the pioneers in giving life to this winery. In 1897, they settled in Chiclana de la Frontera and acquired a winery on Calle Ancha, nº 51, popularly known as "Bodega El Gallo".
The hard work and dedication of the Collantes family fueled the growth of the business. Years later, the expansion of the winery was completed with the acquisition of a new space dedicated to wine aging.
Evolution and recognition:
In 1946, the Primitivo Collantes Winery was established as a Regular Collective Society. In 1973, it was transformed into a Public Limited Company, adapting to the regulations in force in 1992. Today, it operates under the company name Primitivo Collantes, S.A.
Strategically located wineries:
The two Primitivo Collantes wineries are located in strategic locations that facilitate the circulation of the breezes from the south and west of the Atlantic Ocean. These air currents create a cool, humid and darkened environment, ideal for the development of yeast and the aging of high-quality wines.
Own vineyards in Chiclana de la Frontera:
The Bodega Primitivo Collantes winery has three of its own vineyards in the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera: Pozo Galván (17.30 hectares), Matlián (19.53 hectares) ) and El Inglés (18.31 hectares). All of them are located within the Production Area of the Denomination of Origin of Sherry wine.
Ideal climate for wine aging:
Chiclana enjoys a warm southern climate bathed by the maritime atmosphere of the Atlantic. These climatic conditions are ideal for aging "velo de flor" wines, characteristic of the Jerez region.
Aging through the Criaderas and Soleras system:
Aging is the final stage in the production of Primitivo Collantes wines. It is made through the traditional Criaderas and Soleras system, which allows us to obtain wines with a unique complexity and balance.
